Bareroot bushes :: Shipping & Policies
Garden Valley Ranch strives to offer one of the largest selections of roses available anywhere and all of our bare-root roses are #1 grade (there are a few exceptions, for instance, when the rose is not available in #1 grade). We select interesting and quality roses from all the major vendors, as well as specialty roses from other vendors. We accept bare-root orders from September through the end of February each year. The roses are available for shipping or pickup beginning around mid-January. All orders for bareroot rosebushes to be shipped must be received before the end of February. Orders will be shipped from January through the end of April, weather permitting. Please be sure to include a legible ship-to address and a daytime phone number with shipping orders. We ship Federal Express or USPS. Shipping and packing charges are calculated at time of order, but may vary slightly when actually shipped (due to differences in fuel-surcharges). Shipments outside the USA will be charged for a phytosanitary certificate, 10% non-USA credit card fee, please inquire for shipping rates. (CA residents 9% sales tax will be added). We do not ship COD. For bare-root shipments to be held (either for pick-up or later ship dates) we charge your card the day the roses are packed. Cancelled orders after packing will be charged a 15% restocking fee. If you wish to have tree-roses shipped, we will contact you with the shipping charges. We do not ship potted roses.
If we are unable to fill your order as specified, we will ship what we have available and adjust your charge accordingly, if there is a significant portion of your order unavailable, we will contact you for possible alternatives. We guarantee our roses to be true to name and our roses leave here in excellent condition. These bare-root roses are much higher quality than what is seen in the box stores (particularly those bagged roses that can be so problematic) and should arrive to you in excellent condition. If your rose turns out to be the wrong variety, or it does not grow, we will refund or replace the rose at our discretion. However, there can be no refunds for roses shipped at the buyer's request during an inappropriate time of year (for instance, mid-January to Maine), or if reasonable care was not taken once the rose has been received (e.g., leaving them in the box for 2 weeks, letting them dry out, inappropriate planting or care, etc.). To receive a refund or credit, the metal tag or label for the rose must be returned to us.

Planting ::
For planting, no matter what the soil, we recommend using one cup of bone meal and one cup of blood meal stirred into the hole for each rose. DO NOT put chemical fertilizers in the hole with the rose, and do not use chemical fertilizers until the plant begins to grow (at least 4 weeks after
planting). In fact, we recommend you do not use chemical fertilizers (or other chemicals) whatsoever, as they tend to damage the soil structure and micro-organisms that create true soil fertility.

For bareroot planting, we recommend soaking the roses over night (or up to 7 days) in water with a little mycorrhizae mixed in (we sell E. B. Stone's Rose Fertilizer that contains this and other nutrients beneficial to getting your roses of to a good start, see our complete line of fertilizers and sprays here). We also strongly recommend that you plant grafted roses with the graft buried from 1 to 3 inches, this encourages roses to grow onto their own roots in time, and can make for a much longer-lived plant.

Important ::
We do not ship bareroot rosebushes after April. If you cannot accommodate plants (storing them in a dark, moist place until they can be safely planted), we may not be able to guarantee your success.

Due to supply and availability your credit card will not be charged until your order is packed.
